SSL Certificates and "Not Secure" Warnings
All websites on Recrevio automatically receive a free SSL certificate.
You do not need to install, purchase, or activate SSL manually.
SSL ensures a secure, encrypted connection between a visitor’s browser and your website. When SSL is active, your site is accessible via https:// and browsers display it as secure.
In some cases, however, you may temporarily see a “Not secure” warning or notice that HTTPS is not working yet. This article explains why that happens and what to do.
Important to know
- SSL certificates are issued automatically
- SSL can only be installed after a domain is correctly connected
- DNS changes are not instant
- SSL issuance can take up to 48 hours, but often completes much sooner
In most cases, SSL issues are not caused by SSL itself, but by domain or DNS configuration.
Why your site may show “Not secure”
The most common reasons are:
- The domain is not fully connected yet
- DNS records (A or CNAME) are missing or incorrect
- The domain is still connected to another platform
- DNS changes are still propagating worldwide
Until these issues are resolved, SSL cannot be issued.
Start here: check your domain connection
Before troubleshooting SSL specifically, we strongly recommend starting with our domain troubleshooting guide:
👉 Troubleshooting Domain Connection Issues
This guide walks you through:
- Verifying that the domain is not connected elsewhere
- Checking A, CNAME, and AAAA records
- Understanding DNS propagation delays
- Common setup mistakes that block SSL issuance
In the vast majority of cases, resolving the domain or DNS issue automatically resolves the SSL issue as well.
How SSL installation works in Recrevio
Once your domain is:
- Correctly connected
- Properly verified
- Fully propagated via DNS
SSL is issued automatically in the background.
You do not need to:
- Enable HTTPS manually
- Install certificates
- Configure redirects
The system handles this for you.
How long does SSL take to activate?
- In many cases: the same day
- In some cases: up to 48 hours
Delays are usually caused by:
- Recent DNS changes
- Slow DNS propagation
- Temporary caching by browsers or networks
Things you can try while waiting
If DNS is already correct and 48 hours have not yet passed:
1. Test using HTTP
- Open your site using
http://(nothttps://) - This may help trigger SSL verification
- Wait 30–60 minutes and test again
2. Use a private browser window
- Open the site in an incognito/private window
- Try a different browser if possible
3. Try a different network
- For example, switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data
- This helps rule out local caching issues
When SSL still does not activate
If:
- More than 48 hours have passed
- Your domain is correctly connected
- DNS records are verified
- The domain is not connected elsewhere
…and your site still shows as “Not secure”, please contact support and we will help you investigate further.
Summary
- SSL is automatic and free on all Recrevio websites
- “Not secure” warnings are usually caused by domain or DNS issues
- Start with Troubleshooting Domain Connection Issues
- Once the domain is correctly connected, SSL activates automatically
