System vs. Custom Domains

When you publish your website in Recrevio, you can choose between using a system domain or connecting your own custom domain.

System domain

• This is the default web address automatically created for your site.
• It always includes Recrevio’s base domain (e.g. yourname.recrevio.com  ).
• You can change the subdomain, but not remove or change the base domain, e.g. you can change from yourname.recrevio.com  to yourbusiness.recrevio.com

Custom domain

• Your own domain purchased from a registrar such as Loopia, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or similar, e.g. yourbusiness.com
• Recrevio doesn't provide registrar services, so you can't register a custom domain thorugh the platform.
• A custom domain makes your website look professional and builds trust with your audience.

Change your system domain

You can update your system domain’s subdomain at any time.

1. Go to Website Settings → Domains.
2. Locate your system domain.
3. Click the gear icon next to it.
4. Select Change system subdomain.
5. Enter your new subdomain and save.

Connect a custom domain (step by step)

Step 1: Add your domain in Recrevio

1. Go to Website Settings → Domains.
2. Click Connect existing domain.
3. Enter your domain (e.g. yourbusiness.com  ) and click connect domain.

Step 2: Update DNS records at your registrar

Once added, Recrevio will display two DNS records:

• A record → points your domain to Recrevio’s IP address.
• CNAME record → connects your www  version of the domain.

Contact the customer support of your service provider where you registered your domain to assist you with this if you are unsure of what to do.

Every domain provider should allow you to add these records to your domain. If you can't find them, you can contact your domain provider and ask how to add them. They will help you connect your domain to your website in Recrevio.

Step 3: Wait for propagation

• DNS changes usually update within a few hours, but can take up to 48h.
• Your site may be inconsistent during this period.
• Once the changes have propagated, the records block will turn from Red to Green and will indicate that 'This domain is currently Active!'
• SSL (https) is automatically enabled, but may take longer to activate.

Supported registrars

Most registrars work as long as they provide:

• A DNS management panel.
• The ability to set A and CNAME records.

IDN domains (domains including å, ä, ö, and other special characters)

Domains with special characters (e.g. å, ä, ö) must be converted into ACE (xn--) format before connecting.

Example

• Domain: www.dittföretag.se
• ACE version: www.xn--dittfretag-38a.se

How to convert

1. Use a free tool like punycoder.com.
2. Copy the ACE version of your domain.
3. Enter it under Website Settings → Domains.
4. Add the required DNS records in your registrar’s DNS panel.

Domains with special characters like å, ä, or ö must be converted into ACE (xn--) format before connecting.

If you also own the non-IDN version

If you own both:

• dittföretag.se  (with ö)

and

• dittforetag.se  (without ö)

Only one domain can be connected in Recrevio.

The other version must be handled at DNS level with a 301 redirect from your registrar or via a DNS service like Cloudflare.

Example:

• connect dittföretag.se  in Recrevio.
• Set up dittforetag.se  to redirect to dittföretag.se  .

This way, visitors can reach your site regardless of which domain they type, but all traffic will end up on your primary domain.

Troubleshooting domain issues

If your site doesn’t connect or isn’t showing as secure (https), check:

1. Propagation not complete

• DNS updates may take up to 48h.
• Use tolls like dnschecker.org or similar to check the status of the DNS propagation

2. Missing records

• Both A and CNAME must be set.

  Test your setup using tools like:

  • dnschecker.org

3. Conflicting records

• Remove old or duplicate A/CNAME entries.
• Conflicting DNS entries will block the connection.

4. SSL not active

• Usually caused by incorrect/missing DNS records.
• Once records are fixed, SSL will auto-activate.

Disconnect a custom domain

If you want to remove a domain:

1. Go to Website Settings → Domains.
2. Click the gear icon next to the domain.
3. Select Disconnect domain.
